Be Prepared with Mountain House Products Review and Giveaway.

Growing up in Oklahoma we have had our fair share of bad weather. We are right in the path of tornado alley so as soon as April hits I get my usual gear together such as candles, flashlights and a portable radio. Up until a few years ago I never really imagined that we needed much more especially since nothing big had ever hit to close. This was the most naive thinking and I soon learned my lesson on why not being prepared can be costly, dangerous not to mention life threatening.

In December 2007 while I was 7 months pregnant Oklahoma was hit with the worst ice storm ever recorded. We heard the warnings but I just thought “it would never happen to me”. The next morning when we woke up our electricity was out and there was a scary crackling noise coming from outside. When we opened our front door we were shocked to see that everything outside was covered in a thick blanket of ice and the sound was the trees crushing down around us. My husband decided that we should venture to the store to stock up on a few things and apparently everyone else thought the same thing because the shelves were cleared. What we were able to get was twice the price of what I would normally pay and we ended up spending about $500 for basic supplies to last us. The power outage lasted at our home for 13 miserable days and after everything was back to normal I vowed I would never be unprepared again.

Mountain House has one of the largest selections of freeze dried foods that I have come across. We were sent one the Beef Stroganoff with Noodles #10 Can and the Chicken Fajita Filling Pouch.

The #10 Cans are great because they actually have a shelve life of 25 years! I love the fact that this long shelve life takes the worry out of rotating your food to prevent them from expiring. The Pouches are slim, compact and carry a shelve life of 7 years. These would be perfect to take on a hiking trip, put in your backpack or store in your pantry “just in case”. All of the Mountain House food that I have tasted thus far is actually really good. It’s easy to prepare by just adding water to either the pouches or can. Being prepared for anything is one of the smartest things that you can do for you and your family. Mother Nature is unpredictable and it’s better to be over prepared than to have nothing when disaster strikes. It can happen to you so don’t make the mistake that we did.

Be sure to check out Mountain House online and view their amazing selection of meals.
